/biography & Artist Statement

/bio

When Bonnie J. Becker was nine years old, she decided to be an art teacher.  Her goal took her to Northern Illinois University in pursuit of a B.S. Ed. in Art Education.  In 1985, she earned her M.A. in Drawing and Painting from Governors State University in University Park, IL. She taught in Tinley Park, IL, where she served as Art Department Chair and Enrichment Facilitator.  In 2009, after 35 years of teaching, Ms. Becker retired and in 2011, moved to Wake Forest, NC.

"The way that a shadow falls, the beauty of a reflection, the feeling I get from an image that I can't let go of … these are what inspire me to paint.  As I moved from oil paint to watercolor, I have been taken by the fluidity of the watercolors.  The medium has so much to offer with how it is layered, poured, and combined to create vibrant transitions. My fascination with plants and flowers is all about the color. I love painting the subtle changes and the vibrant contrasts."
